Other than exploring the city in six different directions, you mean?
[Connor’s been busy, he thinks. Granted, Markus hasn’t been here quite as long, but comparatively, he sounds nigh directionless.
It’s good, though, that the other has charted out a plan for himself. He’s glad for it.]
Regarding work, I’m still considering what options I have available that would cater to my skill set. I wonder if this place still has any need for art or music.
[Caregiving, though, specifically left out. With all that’s happened, and still no time to grieve a rather poignant loss, Markus purposefully possesses no interest in that line of work for now. Or for a while yet.]
(that's right, markus has a background in the arts, doesn't he? after scanning his model at stratford tower, he didn't figure it was relevant to his investigation that ownership of the RK200 belonged to celebrated painter carl manfred — now connor kicks himself for not paying better attention.
it just goes to show how little he actually knows about the ones he should've helped sooner. as people, not machines.
now he has a chance to do that.)
This may just be my personal opinion, but I think this city needs that infusion of energy even if it doesn't turn out to be lucrative. Who knows? There might be an artistic community here we're unaware of.
Probably. But as much as I’d like to practice the idea of “art for art’s sake”, I don’t think the stereotype of “starving artist” suits someone trying to survive in a new, strange city.
[Have to eat, have to grow into self-sufficiency all over again. It’ll be hard to pay rent without steady income, and Markus doesn’t intend to stay in the safehouse forever.]
[Markus had found, briefly, a few places like that, too. Cheap and in overly crowded parts of the city, nicely tucked away and hidden... but also not very secure, not very held-together.
Living in the old freighter that was Jericho wasn’t exactly luxurious living, and Markus isn’t picky when there are no other resources available — but in this instance, there are. Choices should be skewed accordingly.]
There are opportunities to find more suitable places of living, and ways to make it more affordable. If you’re comfortable sharing.
connor would've wanted a zen garden of his own to live by, spoiled somewhere expansive and verdant, but now he's probably haunted by image of frozen lattices overgrown with preened roses and a snowy gravestone with his name on it. thanks for the bad feng shui amanda.)
Because you’re one of my own people, and the only here that we know of. It’s only natural that I’m going to want to make sure you’re doing well and keeping safe.
[An answer that comes easily to him. He doesn’t need Connor fussing; he has to be strong enough to not lean on the other android too much, even if the transitional period is... jarring.]
So, in other words, I’m the one who should be checking in often.
(succinctly put. he feels similarly, even having felt deviancy needle at the back of his neck well before meeting with markus — as amanda put it he "did what he was programmed to do". his leader applied that pressure necessary for him to accept it.
now he's never felt so alive. having markus' support as he navigates dumbly in the flood waters of it all is... nice.)
Why don't we both watch each other's backs? Then we'll have plenty of coverage and neither of us will feel inattentive. I have to lessen the risks I used to take when I knew I could upload myself into another body.
[There's an inherent issue with those who have leadership qualities ingrained into their cores, and that happens to be the way these individuals overburden themselves with responsibility. Markus is no exception to this rule, and while he is quick to acquiesce (and likely even believes his own acquiescence) to what Connor is saying-]
I don't have a problem with that. I'll make sure you don't take more risks than necessary, and you can do the same for me.
[-in his heart of hearts, he'll continue to feel that overarching desire to be responsible for this other android; for the help to be mostly one-sided because of an example that he has to provide. Such as it is.
The detail about being able to upload to a new body is noted but mostly set aside for now. He tends to the question.]
I've scoped out a few places already, but I still want your approval. So yes, as soon as you're able, we should go looking.

if someone told him the day of his kidnapping that he'd be time travelling to the future, getting stuck in a human body, forced to fight godzilla and its brutish friends, and rooming with the leader of the android rebellion... well, he'd have had himself an honest-to-god laugh.
coming from him? that's pretty damn rare.)
In any case, I'm willing to go now; my schedule is empty for the rest of the day. I trust your judgement, though, if there's one in particular you find satisfactory. You clearly have better luck than I do with this.
[And by “research”, he means links to all of the listings he’s found that prove satisfactory from a cursory assessment. Given that Markus is only humbly estimating what their incomes will be, they’re nothing fancy — rather all similar in size and price range. Enough space for two people to live comfortably (and independently if need be), but certainly nothing jaw-dropping or reflective of a life of luxury.]
Meet you at the address of the first apartment complex on that list. Put on your prospective health and safety inspector face, just in case.
[That was a joke... but only mostly a joke.]
let's call it here and then i can harass you again asap😈
(and there's a little pause as he goes over them, quick flip-throughs with wise eyes seeking out pictures and customer reviews. he'll be on 25th century yelp in no time.)
None of them look like prison cells so far... that's a change of pace. Whatever apartment we wind up renting might need some finishing touches, though, so you can visualize decor while I examine the rest. See you there.
[Visualize decor... Already thinking way ahead, Connor. Markus will be glad if they can just find something suitable, and will attempt to imagine furniture placement later.
But he’ll not frown upon a little enthusiasm.]
Already on my way.
[The communique, for now, ends there. Time for apartment hunting.]

Have you found a place to stay yet?

(but now that they're chatting about the safehouse and mooching, er—)
I helped Akane look at apartments and compiled a list of places I shouldn't stay in, so, admittedly, I've been apprehensive.

Spoiled, verdant, and sunny places to reside in seem to be nothing more than shades of the past for the both of them, anyhow.]
Only if you want to. But I thought it might make it easier for the both of us.
