I've set up in an apartment adjacent to the Salamanders Lodge. There is nothing inside except for a woven tapestry that I think that I like. It's geometric.
(along comes a doodle of his approximation of it, which means that the actual drawing of the tapestry looks like a printed copy of a picture someone took.)
I look forward to seeing more. I've never decorated a living space before, but I might make an attempt to do so here with the things that I find interesting.
(she sees it, she likes it, she wants it, she pounces it -- in this case, said it is connor. jinx had simply been going from the market back to silco's, making sure the old man has enough groceries and the like, when she spots him.
and, as it is, she jumps on his back, excited to see him.)
(jinx's leap at his back doesn't frighten him so much as confuse him, motion sensors barely detecting her approach. in response, connor hinges at the hip into a deep bow while she's still attached to him, making them both look ridiculous to passersby who immediately double their pace.)
Oh. Hello, Jinx. (with the teenager greeted, he straightens and continues walking. she remains on as his backpack, her weight and the weight of her market purchases negligible.)
I'm on my way to the apartment complex. Were you shopping?
(honestly, the combined weight of her weapons and the groceries is probably heavier than jinx herself, so. connor can take it, she assumes, as she shifts a little bit in order to make herself more comfortable on his back.
jinx backpack best jinx.
her chin presses against connor's shoulder and she hums.)
(with only a slight hunch, connor continues trudging along, unbothered.)
He must be happy to have such hard-working employees.
I was at the library reading through some of Talam's history. I didn't get very far, as I was distracted by a few poems. They were all written in ancient Nahuatl—did you know that the language has several dialects? (he's just going to keep going if he's not prevented from speaking.)
I'd like to learn one... or all of them, depending on how long we have here.
[Not long after their last conversation, Connor will receive an audio message. His voice sounds relatively young, as he's in his mid-twenties, and he sounds more unsure about whether or not his medallion is working rather than any trepidation about the conversation ahead.]
(it's a promising start to their conversation, knowing that they can read each other loud and clear. this is also connor's first time putting the medallion to use for anything other than its universal translation "function.")
It is strange. I'd like to know exactly how they work... but that's a question best posed to Ms. Aminat—the leader of the Salamanders. How are you settling in?
It's nothing I'm not used to, especially recently. I'd been on the road for a few weeks before arriving here so having a steady place to eat and sleep is a welcome change of pace.
That, and actually having proper facilities to forge in. I haven't been able to work in a proper forge for awhile now. I missed it.
(Salamander's lounge. It's a nice, cozy place, and pretty organized if it weren't for the walls of books that conceal Alphonse from the rest of the world. Half read, half to be read, and he is in full concentration.
He's a little skeleton, having just gotten his body back not too long ago. The biggest question is, how will he get out? Who knows, truly.)
(connor has been on a book crawl since his arrival last month, determined to commit every one he picks up to memory. it'll help the coterie in the long run, willing to act as an archive or, at the very least, a helpful resource for locating which section of the library a specific text is in.
he's cataloguing now, stepping out from between cases that tower over his head.)
Oh, hello. (an immediate greeting, spotting someone he's never met before. his first impression: starved half to death. his scanners indicate extreme malnourishment in a boy that should look far younger than he is. it's maybe rude to ask about, uncertain if it's a medical condition or the result of an unfortunate circumstance, but connor is unable to resist.)
(A wave that shows just how bony his wrist is, because everything is fine in this house. He uses a piece of paper as a bookmark, turning his full attention to the stranger. Al's much more trusting than his brother, more sociable, so he is smiling, eyes closing in the act.)
I am! Just studying, it's all! Did I hog a book that you need?
Thank you for checking in, Alphonse; I spent the vast majority of my time trying to rip people out of their bubbles as Bruno freed me from my own rather quickly. I have sustained minor damages but my overall condition is adequate. All things considered, I think I got off pretty easy.
It was the same for us... Edward took me out of mine and we split up - he fought the monsters and I woke others. I too am a little hurt, but I'm fine!
(IT'S A BLESSING TO HAVE A BODY TO BE HURT.)
We're very tired, but we're okay. You sustained injuries, though... How does that work? If there's anything missing, I can stretch the existing material, but I can't create more...

(eyeing al's pile of books, suspicious... he's certain they'll be put back in their proper place, as this fellow seems polite enough.)
May I ask what it is you're studying? You must've just arrived in Coatepec; I've never seen you before.
